James Blozie*

Ellsworth Class of 1945

1945 graduate of Ellsworth Memorial High School where he was a four year member of the Soccer, Basketball and Track Teams coached by Hugh Greer. He was a member of two undefeated Basketball State Champion Teams in 1943 and 1945 and was selected as a First Team All-State Guard in 1945. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Athletic Association Council and served as a sports writer for the school newspaper. He participated in War Bond drives during World War II. Jim was the recipient of the “Hugh Greer Award” as the “Best Athlete” in the Class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy reporting for active duty on “Victory in Europe Day” (VE Day) and served in the South Pacific in the Amphibious Corp. He received a Bachelor Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Connecticut in 1950. He was a three year member of the Basketball Team under Coach Greer again and was a three year member of the Soccer Team including the undefeated National Soccer Champion Team in 1948, the first National Championship for the University. He received recognition as a Soccer First Team All-American and All-New England in 1949. He served as an Assistant Basketball Coach at Ellsworth from 1949-1950. He received a Masters Degree in School Health Education from Indiana University in 1951 and played Club Soccer, was a member of the Little 500 Bike Team and President of the Heart Association National Staff Society. His career encompassed employment with various health agencies in numerous states including the Indiana State Board of Health, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. His duties focused on research, public and professional education and community service. He served as National President of the then 500 member American Heart Association staff society. Jim has three children and two grandchildren and resides in Windsor, Connecticut.

Paul Bordonaro

SWHS Teacher and Administrator

Paul has thirty years of service at South Windsor High School including fifteen years as a Business Education Teacher and fifteen years as an Associate Principal. He taught Bookkeeping, Business Law and Business Principles. He served as junior class Advisor working with students to plan proms over a thirty year period. Paul was Faculty Advisor to the Business Club (fifteen years) and chaperoned Ski Club trips and a school trip to Spain. He was awarded a Master Teacher status at SWHS in 1975. The SWHS Class of 1968 Yearbook is dedicated to him. He was an Accounting Instructor in the South Windsor Adult Education Program (1965-1970) and an evening and summer school Accounting Instructor at Morse Business School in Hartford, CT. Paul graduated from William Hall High School in West Hartford and received a B. S. Degree in Business Administration from Quinnipiac College where he was co-editor for the College Yearbook and Vice President of the Theater Workshop. Upon graduation from Quinnipiac College he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He completed basic training in Ft. Dix New Jersey and was attached to the 76th Training Division. He became a Sergeant in the Provost Marshall’s Office (Military Police). He served six years in the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1964. He received a Masters in Secondary Education from the University of Hartford and Sixth Year Administration from the University of Connecticut. Paul has served as a Program Facilitator for West Hartford, Connecticut Adult Education Programs and has also volunteered at the American Red Cross. Paul resides in West Hartford with his wife Natalie.

Elizabeth "Allie" Duclos

Class of 2007

2007 Graduate of South Windsor High School where she was a four year honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society, (2006-2007). Known by many as “Allie”, she was a four year member and starter on the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team. She served as Team Co-Captain her junior and senior years. Allie was All-Conference and All-State three years and was recognized as an All- American both her junior and senior years. She played for the World Champion USA U-19 Squad in 2007 at the World Championships in Ontario, Canada. Allie also was a member of the Girl’s Varsity Volleyball Team her senior year where she received All-Conference honors. Allie received the Hugh Greer Award as the “Best Female Athlete” in her class and was recognized as the “Female Athlete” of the senior class in 2007. She received a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies Degree (Young Childhood Education) from the University of New Hampshire in 2011 where she was a four year member and starter on the Women’s Division I Lacrosse Team. She served as Captain her junior and senior years. Allie was ranked in the “Top 5” in the United States in Draws for three seasons. She was selected to the American East All-Conference First Team three years, the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and the IWLCA All-Academic Team, and the America East All-Academic Team two years. She also served as Vice President and President of a Student Athlete Leadership organization. She received a Master of Education in Elementary Education from Springfield College in 2013 and was an Assistant Coach there for Women’s Lacrosse 2011-2013. Allie began her teaching career as a 5th Grade Teacher in 2013 at DeBerry Elementary School in Springfield, Massachusetts where she is currently employed. She has been the Somers High School Lacrosse Coach since 2016 and led the team to the state finals in her first year. She is a CrossFit Coach at CrossFit Blue Diamond in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts (2016-Present). She is a former South Windsor Youth Lacrosse Coach (2014-2015) and has led a CVYGL Lacrosse Coaches Clinic with her father for Connecticut Town Coaches (2011-present). She managed a fundraising event in 2016 at her CrossFit Gym and proceeds went to the Michael Lynch Scholarship Foundation which raises money to help fund the education of fallen 9/11 firefighters and other rescue team members. Clothes were also collected for donation to a local women’s shelter in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Kevin Kelly

Class of 1970

1970 graduate of South Windsor High School where he was Captain of the Soccer Team and member of the Track Team and Student Council. Kevin is a 1974 Graduate of St. Anselms College with a degree in Political Science and he was President of the St. Anselms Student Government. He received a Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk College in 1976. He has been employed at Leon N. Wiener and Associates, a home building company based in Wilmington, Delaware 1979 to present where he presently serves as the company’s President and Managing Partner. His experience encompasses land development and multifamily and single family home building with a focus on affordable housing. His company has planned and developed more than 20K homes and apartments in communities throughout the Mid Atlantic, New England and Ohio Valley states. The company has built more than 15K sale and rental homes as well as numerous lodging and commercial properties. The company owns and operates 5,500 apartments through its affiliate, Arbor Management. The Weiner organization has earned national, regional and local planning, development, property management and fair housing awards including National Multifamily Developer of the Year and Builder and Developer of America’s Best Affordable For-Sale Housing Community. The organization has been named one of Delaware’s “Best Places to Work” numerous times. Kevin has been active in Home Building Associations at the local, state and national levels. He is a life Director of the Home Builders Association of Delaware and served two terms as President. On the national level, he served as the 2014 Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Home Builders and led numerous industry meetings at the White House, with the leadership of the Federal Reserve, U.S. Department of Housing and at the highest levels on Capitol Hill. Kevin served on the National Association of Home Builders Executive committee and chaired influential committees for more than a decade. He has also served as a Member of Fannie Mae’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council, chaired the Delaware Business Group, advised various State Housing Agencies and served on the transition team for two Delaware Governors. Kevin is a speaker, moderator and panelist regarding issues of land use, growth, affordable housing and urban redevelopment. He was a panelist at a White House Forum on Housing and testified before committees and subcommittees of the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and Delaware General Assembly. Kevin is President of the Leon N. Weiner Education Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Wilmington. He has received a “Distinguished Alumni Award” at St. Anselm College in 2007, “Builder of the Year” (1999 and 2014) and “Distinguished Service Award” (2008) from the Home Builders Association of Delaware, the “Daniel M. Grady Affordable Housing Award” (2010) and “Advocate of the Year” (2009) from the National Association of Home Builders, Housing Opportunities of Delaware- Fair Housing Award and the NAACP/Delaware: Affordable Housing Advocate Award. He and his wife Marcia have two sons and are active in their church and several local community organizations that serve the homeless, the mentally and physically challenged and victims of domestic violence.

David Lynch

Class of 1977

1977 graduate of South Windsor High School ranked fourth in a class of 354. He was a member of the National Honor Society (junior and senior years), Editor of the South Winds Newspaper (junior and senior years), Class Treasurer (junior and senior years), Connecticut State Debate Champion, selected for Boy’s State (junior year), AFS (senior year) and chosen for the Presidential Classroom of Young Americans (senior year). David also achieved Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 228. David graduated with honors from Wesleyan University with a B.A. Degree in Government in 1981 and was a Truman Scholarship Finalist. He received a Masters Degree in International Relations from Yale University in 1983 where he was a recipient of a Graduate Fellowship and was Speaker Program Chairman for the International Relations Department. David’s employment includes Washington Correspondent at the Financial Times (2016 to Present), Cybersecurity Editor at Politico (2015-2016), Senior Writer at Bloomberg News in Washington, D.C. (2010-2015) and Global Business Writer (2005-2010), Founding Beijing China Bureau Chief (2002-2005), Founding London, England Bureau Chief (1997-2001) and Financial Writer (1994-1996) for USA Today. Previously, David was Editor of Defense Week, a Washington, D.C. trade publication covering national security. He has travelled all over the world reporting on the economy and world market from more than sixty countries. For USA Today he has covered wars in Kosovo and Iraq and was an embedded reporter with the U.S. Marines in Iraq in 2003. He was USA Today’s first recipient of a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. David has made television appearances on Fox, C-Span and PBS in the United States and BBC and Sky News in London, England. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication and led seminars for Chinese business journalists in Xi’an, China. He published a book titled “When the Luck of the Irish Ran Out: The World’s Most Resilient Country and Its Struggle to Rise Again”. David lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Kathleen and their three sons.

Robert Pennell*

Teacher and Coach

Bob is a 1964 graduate of Hartford Public High School where he was a multi-sport athlete. He completed Bachelor, Masters and Sixth Year Educational Leadership Programs at Central Connecticut State College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Radio Communications stationed in South Korea near the 54th parallel, a unit that contained nuclear weapons. Bob was a teacher and coach at South Windsor High School for 36 years from 1973-2009. He taught Geography, American History, Economics, Global Village and Modern World History. He served as the Varsity Baseball Coach for ten years. He taught his players how to win with grace and lose with class. Bob was active in the South Windsor Education Association and served as Building Representative for the high school, Contract Negotiator and Grievance Co-Chair. He was a popular speaker at South Windsor High School faculty retirement gatherings and organized many social events and holiday parties. He managed the Faculty Fund which assisted high school faculty who experienced tough times or celebrate special occasions. Bob passed away in 2010.

Kevin Sullivan, MD

Class of 1986

1986 graduate of South Windsor High School where he played Varsity Soccer and Varsity Hockey three years, Captain of Hockey Team senior year. He received a B.A. Degree in Psychology and graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University in1990 where he was a member of the Men’s Hockey Team four years and Co-Captain his Senior year. He was the 1941 Championship Trophy recipient in 1990, Richard F. Vaughan Cup Recipient in 1990 and ECAC Player of the Week. Upon graduation from Princeton, Kevin applied and had been accepted to New York Medical College but also was presented with an opportunity to play professional hockey with the San Jose Sharks organization which he did for the years 1990-1992. He then went on to graduate from New York Medical College. Kevin is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and second board certified in Pain Medicine. His experience and volunteer work include Physician Partner in Orthopedics New England, in Boston, Massachusetts (2015-present), Physician Partner in the Boston Spine Group (2001-2015), Chief Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Metrowest Medical Center, Chairman North American Spine Society Regional Spinal Injections Course (2007-2013) and Castle Connolly Top Doctors (2013-2016). He has numerous publications/articles. He resides with his wife Cate and three children in Westborough, Massachusetts.

1975-1976 Boys State Champion Hockey Team


The Boy’s Hockey Team won the Division II State Title beating East Haven 7-0 at the New Haven Civic Center. The team gathered 18 wins and only one loss while also becoming Connecticut Valley Conference Champions with a 6-0 record and with a 20 game win streak to end the season including the state tournament. The team’s leading scorer was Skip Grant with 64 points. The State Tournament MVP was Skip Grant with Dan Carbonneau joining him on the All-Tournament Team. Ray Culotta and Dan Carbonneau received All-State recognition with Skip Grant and Mark Brown receiving Honorable Mention. The team was coached by Bob Marcous who later played and coached in Europe. The team was ranked 5th in the nation by Hockey Magazine (March 1976).

1984 Girls' State Champion Cross Country Team


Coached by Steve Stoklosa, the girl’s team started the 1984 season ranked 8th in the state and were the defending CVC champions. The team compiled a 13-3 record including a first place finish in the Wickham Park Invitational, the CIAC State Class LL Championship and 8th place finish in the CIAC State Open.
